Good morning all.
Today is our day, the chickens turn at animal talk, and let me tell you – We have a lot to say.
So first let me introduce myself. I am Barb, one of the oldest chickens at the ranch and a bardrock hen. And no, my name is not Barb because of my breed. I am named after one of the keeper’s aunts. Now you will find that us chickens and roosters (we must not forget them loudmouths) do not call our keeper goat lady or goat goddess, as she is our keeper. The goats think they are something of a higher class group, and that our keeper only revolves around them, but, I am here to tell you – That is not true!
So, anyway, I am speaking for all of us chickens here on the farm. We LOVE our life here. We do have our own home, seperate from the rest of the animals, and they are not allowed in our home. However, we get out everyday to roam around, come and go as we please, which means we get to visit the other guy’s houses. So I think that is why the other animals are not always happy to see us. But without us, they would have to deal with a lot more bugs – ones that like to bite them. So we serve a big purpose here on the farm. We produce eggs too, something that some of the other animals get to indulge in. For example, Baby, the old girl in the house, she’s just a little dog (Chihuahua ). Now, in her younger days, she would run and play outside, running past us chickens and making us fly. Well… that’s the story my Grandma used to tell me as I was not here yet. Nowadays, she no longer comes out very much, but she does get our eggs scrambled to keep her strong and they are easy for her to eat with not too many teeth left. We, hens also provide the eggs that go in the goat milk shakes that our keeper gives to her Mom to drink. Let me tell you – We are very proud and happy to do that for our keeper’s mom as she is how us chickens first came to the ranch. She has always brought us special snacks like bread, popcorn, ceral, or different kinds of fruits and sometimes… french fries. Now that is a real treat!
Well enough said about us chickens. I will just add that there are a few of us here. With a lot to say from time to time. And now that we have this spot, we will be adding a few adventures of our own – So, stay tuned….
